JEWELRY CARE GUIDE
JEWELRY CARE GUIDE
Love Your Jewelry, And It Will Love You Back. High-quality body jewelry is an investment. While materials like Implant-Grade Titanium are incredibly durable, all jewelry benefits from proper care to maintain its shine and structural integrity. Follow these guidelines to keep your CRUX pieces looking fresh forever.
THE GOLDEN RULES (General Care)
-
Keep it Dry: Avoid wearing plated or acrylic jewelry while swimming (chlorine/saltwater) or showering. Chemicals in water can tarnish metals and degrade plastics.
-
Avoid Chemicals: Keep jewelry away from harsh chemicals, including perfumes, hairsprays, and alcohol-based cleaners (especially for Acrylic).
-
Sleep Smart: While simple studs can be worn 24/7, we recommend removing large, heavy, or dangling pieces before bed to prevent snagging or damage.
-
Gentle Cleaning: For most metal jewelry, a gentle wash with warm water and mild, fragrance-free soap is best. Dry thoroughly with a soft, lint-free cloth.
-
Storage Matters: When not in use, store your jewelry in a clean, dry place (like a jewelry box or pouch) to prevent scratches and oxidation.
MATERIAL-SPECIFIC CARE
💎 Titanium (Anodized & Polished) Titanium is the superhero of body jewelry—lightweight, biocompatible, and corrosion-resistant.
-
Color Fading: If your titanium is anodized (colored), the vibrant hue may fade over time due to body oils and friction. This is a normal process and does not affect safety. Many professional studios can re-anodize jewelry to restore its color.
-
Maintenance: Simply clean with warm soapy water. It will not rust or tarnish.
✨ Solid Gold Gold is timeless but requires attention.
-
Discoloration: Acidic body fluids can sometimes react with gold alloys, causing slight darkening. Use a professional Gold Polishing Cloth to restore its shine.
-
Chlorine Warning: Never wear gold in swimming pools or hot tubs. Chlorine can weaken the structure of gold, making it brittle and prone to snapping.
🌟 Gold Plated / PVD These pieces feature a layer of gold over a durable base (like Stainless Steel) to create a stunning look.
-
Protect the Plating: Friction and moisture are the enemies of plating. Avoid wearing these pieces in water or during heavy exercise.
-
Wear & Tear: Over time, the coating may wear down to reveal the silver-toned metal beneath. This is normal wear for plated jewelry.
🔮 Acrylic Acrylic is lightweight and colorful but fragile.
-
No Alcohol: NEVER clean acrylic with alcohol or harsh chemicals. It will cause the plastic to crack or shatter.
-
Heat Sensitivity: Do not boil or autoclave acrylic. It can warp under high heat.
-
Handling: If changing a bead on an acrylic ring, warm it slightly with your hands or warm water to make it flexible before snapping it in, otherwise, it may snap.
🌀 Silicone Soft, flexible, and comfortable—perfect for stretched lobes.
-
Keep it Clean: Silicone can attract dust and lint. Wash it frequently with mild soap.
-
Let Skin Breathe: Silicone creates a tight seal. We recommend removing silicone plugs periodically to allow your skin to breathe and prevent irritation or moisture buildup.
